"A gently soothing enchanting and entrancing journey of the spirit
encompassing worlds of subliminal musical influences and life experience
in a melting-pot of luxurious delicious discourse. A vision of tranquility
and union.
In times of division and uncertainty on this little planet of ours, it
is musicians such as these who can always breathe a vision of joy love
and unity, evoking a spirit of optimism and hope just by doing what they
do and reminding us of who we are.
The album opens with a shimmering rubato fantasia introducing each player
one by one and establishing a mood of interconnective playfulness pervading
the entire album. Each song introduces itself as a new chapter to the
story. A window into the lives and experiences of some unique individuals
who've combined their creative gifts to make this album. Like chapters
in a good book these songs unfold in a continuum of blissful revelation,
and like all good albums, beyond the notes and lyrics is an underlying
intangible satisfaction greater than thesum of it's component parts.
The musicians on this album represent a stream of new creative musical
thought from a fertile network of talented musicians in Sydney who know
each others musical language intimately, and openly exchange musical ideas
and experience on and off stage. All the musicians on this album shine
individually within the context of this collective, and play as well as
I've ever heard them. A wonderful tour de force from an evolving cultural
hotbed of kindred spirits. Drink it in and cherish it."

"Great new release from the irrepressible Jazzgroove Records label.
Headed by Judy Campbell & Mark Ginsburg, the band features James Muller,
Gerard masters, Nick McBride, Brett Hirst and Justine Bradley. It's a
mix of African dance,jazz-rock fusion and a tiny bit of latin. Original
and then some."
Mosaic - Common Ground
reviewed by Jasmine Crittenden, Drum Media, 15 February 2005
"Common Ground is a transfixing journey through an array of texture
and moods, from Latin-inspired ideas to contemporary jazz jams to folk
ballads. Its richness comes out of the diversity of its members, from
virtuoso James Muller to vocalist Judy campbell, who blends a strong understanding
of the jazz tradition with knowledge of Jewish and world music. Each finds
a place for the expression of his/her unique voice, but at the same time,
the music is governed by a peaceful unity.
This is clear from the opening, a dreamy composition by Mark Ginsburg,
in which each musician is introduced independently, until all shift into
a unified expression of sing - simple but beautiful melodies over complex
interplay from the rhythm section. It is also reflected in the compositions
- there are pieces by three different band members, one by Milton Nascimento
and one by Steve Hunter - the longing, Latin influenced Menino,
which explores the difficulties of parting. Ginsburg's Outside In is inspired by seeing his response to seeing McCoy Tyner live after a
lifetime listening to his music, whilst Judy Campbell's aching ballad, Into Blue, deals with the sadness and pain brought about by loss
and the irrevocable passing of time.
Common Ground is very much about the exploration of intense emotions and
raw responses to the world. It concludes with Nkosi Somandla, a collaborative
arrangement based on a South African hymn and featuring the sublime sounds
of the South African indigenous opera company Co-Opera, particularly soloist
Pumlani Kosi."

"In the immortal words of John Lennon, picture yourself in a boat
on a river, and you get the idea of this amazingly liquid music. Led by
singer Judy Campbell and saxophonist Mark Ginsburg, the exceptional participants
include guitarist James Muller and bassist Brett Hirst."

"Mosaic's music is like a sun shower on a summer's day: there is
a blitheness and a softness about it without a loss of warmth. voices
and instruments gently meld into one another. There is always a sense
of forward momentum, but it is one of easy flow rather than vigorous propulsion.
Singer Judy Campbell and saxophonist Mark Ginsburg lead the operation,
their willowy, Latin-jazz aesthetic riding on pretty melodies, well0crafted
compositions and highly polished playing and singing. Solos from guitarist
James Muller and pianist Gerard Masters add further lustre."
